New Baby Essentials

Firstly, using oils on your babe is totally a personal decision. I have absolutely no issue with using them. Not only do they work for us, but I'd much rather be putting oils on Clementine than medications with nasty chemicals!

The key is to always dilute!! Click here for more information about how to use essential oils safely.


Tip: I use the below dilution chart when making blends, and add a few extra drops as Clementine has used oils for a long time and I am comfortable doing so.

without further ado, here are some great recipes that I've used along the way:


Nappy Rash Spray

cleanse and soothe

Ingredients

  • 500ml spray bottle (you can also get metal ones from Kmart for $2)
  • 16 drops Lavender - soothing and calming to the skin
  • 15 drops Tea Tree - cleaning for the skin
  • 15 drops Frankincense - great for skin rejuvenation
  • 1 tablespoon Fractionated Coconut Oil (you don't have to add this, but I add it to almost all of my sprays because it helps to 'carry' the oils)
  • Top with distilled or tap water - it really doesn't matter which you use. Tap water can contain bacteria, which is why I like to use distilled (it is just boiled water)

Method:

  • Add everything and BOOM, Bob's your uncle!

Tip: DO NOT use a plastic bottle. The oils are potent and can disintegrate plastic over time. You don't want to be spraying that on your little babe.


Nappy Rash Cream

Free from nasties

No petroleum, no chemicals!

Ingredients

Method

  • Melt down the beeswax (in either a thermomix or in a ceramic bowl over a pot of simmering water)
  • Stir until smooth
  • Add Fractionated Coconut Oil slowly
  • Remove from heat and add essential oils (stir)
  • Let cool and then add to glass jar and keep the lid on

Tip: if the cream is too firm (and more of a 'balm'), re-melt the mixture and add a dash of olive oil. Try not to do this, though, because heating the oils will cause them to lose some of their potency. Not a big deal, but you want to get the full benefits!

If you'd prefer a powder, try the recipe below:
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup arrowroot powder
  • 1 drop Roman Chamomile
  • 1-2 drops Lavender
  • 1/4 cup finely ground oats (I blend mine in the thermie)
  • Mix ingredients and put in a metal shaker bottle (or, like me, use an empty spice jar with a sifter lid)

Teething

*Disclaimer: I have literally changed my teething recipe EVERY time I've made up a new roller blend. Roman Chamomile seems to work best for Clementine, as well as Siberian Fir and Copaiba. However, when she was younger, the below recipe was my go-to, and the best part? The oils come in the Home Essentials Kit!

Ingredients:

  • 10 ml roller bottle
  • 7 drops Frankincense
  • 7 drops Lavender
  • Top with Fractionated Coconut Oil
  • Apply to jaw line, neck, behind ear and in front of ear

Alternative Recipes:

  • Roman Chamomile, Siberian Fir and Copaiba
  • Roman Chamomile, Frankincense and Lavender
  • Copaiba, Siberian Fir and Blue Tansy

Calm

My fave recipe!

Ingredients:

  • 10 ml roller bottle
  • 6 drops Lavender Peace - helps to calm the mind and emotions
  • 6 drops Balance - eases anxious feelings and grounds your entire body
  • 2 drops Wild Orange - helps to cheer up your little babe
  • Roll down spine, on pulse points, and on the soles of the feet (focus on the big toe)

*Alternatives Oils: Lavender, Frankincense, ROman Chamomile, Bergamot, Copaiba, Bergamot, Ylang Ylang, Vetiver, Cedarwood


Sleep

GO THE FUCK TO SLEEP

*Disclaimer: not a miracle worker, LOL

Ingredients:

  • 10 ml roller bottle
  • 6 drops Lavender Peace
  • 4 drops Cedarwood
  • 3 drops Vetiver
  • Top with Fractionated Coconut Oil
  • Apply down spine and on soles of feet (focus on big toe) about 30 minutes before bed

*Alternative Oils: Lavender, Roman Chamomile, Juniper Berry (worked a treat for us when Clementine had night terrors), Bergamot, Blue Tansy, Copaiba and Petitgrain


Night Time Routine

Not gonna lie, I love a good bloody routine. I LIVE FOR IT!

Here's our oily routine for Clem:

  • Every morning before daycare, I roll her 'Immune' roller down her spine and along her feet (On Guard, Arborvitae and Copaiba, but you can also use On Guard and Frankincense)
  • If she's unwell, I use the 'Immune Bomb' roller, which is Lemon, On Guard, Frankincense, Tea Tree and Oregano
  • I roll 'Cheer' or 'Console' on her pulse points, spine and soles of feet
  • We also take Cheer, Console and my DIY Wipes to daycare with us
  • We usually switch up diffuser blends during dinner time. Bergamot/Roman Chamomile/Lavender are really great to help kiddies wind down. We also diffuse a lot of Lavender Peace and Ylang Ylang at night time because they have really calming aromas
  • We use Clem's Sleep blend along her spine and on the soles of her feet before bed. At the moment, the blend is Lavender Peace, Cedarwood and Juniper Berry
  • We diffuse Lavender Peace and Cedarwood most nights
