Palo Santo wood comes from the Palo Santo trees of South America. It helps to purify and heal, not only clearing away negative energies but also encouraging good energy into your space, mind and body.
This is my favourite smudging tool and has a really calming and relaxing aroma. It has a therapeutic healing energy, and I instantly feel grounded, cleansed and rejuvenated every time I use it.
It lifts the vibration of your energy field, opening the third eye and crown chakra. This makes it the perfect ritual for intention setting, ritual cleansing, meditation, creativity and connection.
Because Palo Santo is considered sacred, only the fallen branches are harvested, no trees are ever cut down. The tree belongs to the same botanical family as Frankincense and Myrrh trees (two of my favourite essential oils), which also produce beneficial antioxidant-rich oils that are used around the world.
It has a beautiful, light scent and is much less "smoky" than sages.
Light one end of the stick and allow the flame to burn for a minute or so. If it's the first time you have lit that particular piece of wood, it can take a little bit to catch alight. Blow out the flame and walk around your space wafting the smoke in the corners. Palo Santo does not smoke as much as Sage, so you will see just a small thread of smoke coming from the wood - that means you're doing it right! You may have to relight during your walk-through - this is also normal.
You can also use Palo Santo to purify your crystals, especially when their energy starts to feel heavy. To use Palo Santo's healing energy on your crystals, begin by lighting (as above), and waiting for its flame to die out. Holding the Palo Santo stick in one hand, use your other hand to raise your crystal and immerse it into the smoke of the palo santo. Depending on how many crystals you are cleansing, you may have to relight the stick a few times. If you can’t lift your crystal (i.e. my Golden Healer is soooo heavy), use your hand to waft the smoke onto your crystal.
